Durham Women FC RTC sponsors, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, have teamed up with Under 14s coach Martin Herdman to release a book with the aim of raising some much-needed funds. The book, 'Games To Create The Football Thinker', is a 110 page coaches guide with fun and practical exercises for coaches to try within their sessions.
Designed with the aim of informing coaches both prior to and during their sessions, the book is on sale now with all profits going to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
Drew Turner, a member of the Durham RTC U14 squad, suffers from Cystic Fibrosis and it was her family, alongside Herdman, who were the driving forces behind the book being produced.
Commenting on the release of the book, Herdman said: “The book is broken down into three main parts and the meat of it is thinking games.
“There’s 44 of those in there with different scenarios like Newcastle v Sunderland which pose questions to two teams.
“The book starts with some starter activities for when players arrive which they can lead themselves in.
“We then have some ‘Fun for Five’ games like head tennis and World Cup Doubles.
“One of my bug bears is people blasting balls into nets and these maintains the quality of the sessions when you might need to set something up.”
And for Herdman, the book is all about raising some much-needed money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
“Drew is a great little girl and having spoken to her family I wanted to raise as much money as we can,” he said.
“They’re talking about cures and drugs in the future so hopefully we can help people with the condition.
“We’ve already made over £300 and if we could make into the thousands that would be fantastic.”
The book is on sale now on eBay, priced at just £10 including postage and packaging. All profits from the sale of the book go to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
